Water Purification Tablets

When wild camping, or even when on a long hike, it's important to have a way of purifying water before use - unfortunately even the clearest water may be harbouring something nasty to make you very ill indeed, which is never a good thing in the wilds! :/

I like using Oasis tabs as they work fast and taste quite neutral, just a hint of chlorine which fades the longer you leave it. They also sell a variety of different sized tablets depending on how much water you usually need to treat at a time. Just follow the instructions and enjoy a refreshing drink, or wash, from a stream without the risk of getting sick!

They come in handy on board the motor home too! We fill up our fresh water tank from petrol stations' air & water points quite regularly, since outdoor taps for public use are pretty much non-existent. The water is always clean looking from garages but again the danger is what you can't see, so I make sure to add a relevant quantity of purification tablets each time to be on the safe side. I use the larger tablets which purify 25 litres at a time for the tank. Even if we have had access to drinking quality water to fill the tank with, I still pop a couple in the tank and run it all through from time to time to make sure it hasn't developed anything whilst sitting in there.

We live neither on or off-grid, rather somewhere in between, and are not the first and I dare say not the last to choose this way of life... read more>>
